Kauai—Lawai-based Aqua Engineers, Hawaii’s leading water and wastewater management company, has named Eassie Miller President and Chief Executive Officer, replacing Ian Kagimoto, one of the original founders of Aqua Engineers twenty-five years ago.
In his position as President and CEO, Miller will be responsible for running Aqua Engineers and its subsidiary companies: Kauai Precast, LLC, which specializes in precast concrete products; A-Vac, LLC, which handles sewer and storm system maintenance; and Briant Construction, Inc., a mechanical contracting company. He also will be responsible for successfully transitioning the company from a 4-person ownership organization to an employee owned organization.
In March 2006, 100% of Aqua Engineers shares were purchased by Aqua Engineers’ employee stock ownership plan (ESOP). “The recent transition of Aqua Engineers to an ESOP organization provides me the opportunity to be a part of Aqua’s next generation leadership team as we go forward with positive growth and new opportunities,” Miller said.
Miller formerly managed the Honolulu office of Brown and Caldwell, an environmental engineering and consulting firm. For 12 years prior to that, he
was Chief of the County of Maui WW Reclamation Division, where he actively participated in the planning, design, and construction of wastewater and solid waste facilities. Miller holds a B.S., Civil Engineering, and an M.S.C.E, Civil Engineering.
“I’m looking forward to building on the foundation of Aqua’s 25 year legacy,” Miller said. “Ultimately, Aqua Engineers will be a full service organization for design build initiatives in Hawaii.”
Kagimoto, who previously had majority ownership of the company, continues to play a leadership role along with another Aqua Engineers’ founder, Frank Kiger, and two recently appointed board members--Dennis Tulang and Steve Takahashi.
“Eassie’s 30 years of experience in managing wastewater systems on Maui and Oahu have prepared him for this job, which requires vision, skills of the trade, and management skills,” said Kagimoto. “I am confident that he will ensure that the Aqua Engineers team has the tools to achieve success.”
Founded in 1981 to meet a need for trained operators for privately-owned wastewater treatment plants on Kauai, Aqua Engineers with its wholly owned subsidiaries now has nearly 100 employees specializing in engineering, construction, operations, maintenance, and management of water and wastewater systems throughout Hawaii. In 2004, the company was awarded the $419 million, 50-year contract to operate, maintain and upgrade the Schofield
Barracks Wastewater Treatment Plant on Oahu.
Dedicated to designing and operating efficient water and wastewater systems throughout Hawaii, Aqua Engineers www.aquaengineers.com continues to expand its services, meet community needs, and employ the latest technology.
